Meet the Team
We have a diverse, multi-talented team. Here's a chance to know a little more about us as individuals.
Shawn Adams
Shawn grew up in Santa Cruz amongst the rowdy surf and skate scene. He moved to San Francisco, moved to Sacramento, then to Monterey. His sign career started in Sacramento where he traveled extensively visiting hundreds of sign shops and learning the business. After a successful corporate career he rolled the dice and started Monterey Signs, and later Santa Cruz Signs, with his wife, Anjanette in 2008. His greatest brush with fame was when he was a kid his mom almost married a man whose brother did the makeup for the Donnie and Marie Show!
Anjanette Adams
Anjanette grew up in the suburbs of Sacramento but took her love of the ocean to Humboldt State University where she received her Marine Biology degree and became a Master certified scuba diver. While going to school she worked at a bank where she excelled at all things financial. After college she came to Monterey to run a local kayaking business where she met Shawn. Together they started Monterey Signs, and later Santa Cruz Signs, all while raising two beautiful kids. She does not use much of her Marine Biology degree today but those financial skills are very strong now and she does the heavy lifting on managing both shops. She is amazing.
Roberto Matadamas
Roberto is from a little town called El Nido near Merced California. He never thought he'd end up moving to Monterey but now is so grateful he did. When not making signs he likes to ride his Fixie bike on the trails and spend time with friends and family. He also loves live music. Little fun fact; he's the longest tenured employee but also the youngest in age. Seven years and still going strong!
Tony Calvert
Tony has been in Graphic Design for over 14 years, working on marketing, advertising, apparel, and now signs. He is best known for his incredible attention to detail and excellent project management. When not making signs you may see him at local clubs and bars as a DJ and semi-pro breakdancer (Ok, maybe not the breakdancing part!).
Christian Lozada
Christian has been a Graphic Designer in the sign industry for over 11 years. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and 3 sons. Some of his hobbies include drawing, video games, watching movies, and playing guitar. He's our newest employee and came to us looking to work for an employer that offered a fun work environment and challenged him creatively- we did not disappoint!
Dylan Rivera
Dylan has been in the sign industry since 2011 and is a lifelong resident of the Monterey Bay area. He loves art and nature. Dylan enjoys mountain biking, camping, hiking and disc golf. He also has an appreciation for music and plays Bass, Guitar &s; Didgeridoo. Here at Monterey Signs Dylan is one of our Project Managers who is in charge of scheduling instal-lations and making sure projects run smoothly through the shop.
Dona Ciudad
Håfa Adai! (Hello in Chamorro) Dona was born and raised on the beautiful Island of Guam, where the American day begins. She loves the ocean (just the Pacific Ocean, she says) and delicious island food to share with family and friends. When not making signs, she is living the Island Life on the mainland. She’s the “Shop Mom” having been in the business for over 25+ years and knows pretty much everything about making and installing signs.
Jon Mata
We call Jon Mata “J Jon” around here. He is proudly born and raised in Santa Cruz. J Jon married his high school sweetheart and they now have three beautiful daughters. He loves dogs, saltwater fishing, and (big surprise)- disc golf! He's also the guys who makes killer tacos for our gatherings. At work you can find J Jon up on a lift, at his desk managing a project, or driving his truck from job site to job site.
Shanna Denton
Shanna is an original Canadian who has resided on the Monterey Peninsula for over 18 years. Growing up working in various trades, sign making has become another extension of the hands on work she’s always loved. When she’s not at work, she travels to and watches countless sporting events, is a professional chauffeur, home chef, activities coordinator, and therapist. Or in other words, is mom to 3 awesome girls.
Ondine Gorton
Originally from the east coast (NJ) had been living in Big Sur for over 20 years raising her daughter. She spent 18 of those years as the owner/operator of Local Color, a gallery and gift store supporting local artists. Ondine brings her love of the arts and business management skills to our team as our Office Manager.
David Laugeson
David is a Danish Santa Cruz born and raised local. He runs the shop down in Santa Cruz and you can catch him there M-F 9-5 to handle any of your signage needs. Like a bunch of us here he loves disc golf. He also loves playing pinball and watching soccer.
Josh Carney
Josh is our newest employee, originally from Athens, Ga. He loves carpentry, music, video games and movies. On the weekends he is either bouldering at the rock gym, mountain bik-ing with his wife or taking a weekend road trip. He is very detail oriented and can be a bit of a perfectionist. He wanted to find a company who not only challenged this side of him but also aligned with his moral goals. We did not let him down!
